Fracture
# 8008
Fracture
is a rather popular whale who is seen quite a bit throughout the
seasons. He has been seen every year since his birth in 1990.
He has four known half-siblings and his mother is Cats Paw
(See Cats Paw's Family tree).
Fracture
is one of the few whales that hung around Stellwagen Bank during
the 1995 season. That year, many of the humpbacks moved onto other
feeding grounds due to the lack of sand lance here. Fracture as
well as another whale about the same age, a female named Zeppelin,
were often seen together on the bank. Zeppelin was involved
in an entanglement that same year and left the area for a few
years. Fracture, on the other hand, could not stay away
too long and would be seen again later that year south of Stellwagen
Bank at the Great South Channel.
Fracture
has several identifying marks on his fluke. There is a thin,
black line near the tip of the right fluke that looks a little
like a fracture in the tail. You will also see a large white
spot directly in the center of the fluke near the trailing edge.
